ABOUT MARY
It seems to me I have been a therapist all my life. Maybe it is just
who I am, or part of who I was supposed to become.
I have been legally blind since birth; so sensing the unseen and
listening are skills I developed early.
As a child, I was very interested in people, in really knowing
them ... their thoughts and feelings and why they behaved in the ways
they did. I often found adults confusing and contradictory. Of course,
now I know they were often unsure and conflicted … as much a mystery
to themselves as to me.
So for me psychology was my path, the way I chose to be in the world …
to fathom the internal workings of others and myself and then to
understand the connectedness between all of us.
From the time I was sixteen I voraciously read and studied Psychology
and Sociology and graduated with a degree in both. Sociology completed
Psychology because it went further in explaining the interaction of the
individual within the group. I also became politically active and discovered
Astrology, a lifelong love. After working in Health Care, home visiting a
wide diversity of folks for several years, I returned to school and earned a
Master’s Degree in Social Work.
The last piece of the personal/professional puzzle fell into place through my
embrace of meditation and the clarification and integration of my deeply-held
spiritual beliefs.
Professionally, I have trained extensively in Grant Writing, Policy and
Organizational Development, Group Work, Family therapy, Core Energetics (which
is body-centered Psychotherapy, Addictions Treatment, Hypnotherapy and Astrology.
I have worked in and run programs that served and provided advocacy for the
homeless population, people with AIDS, children at risk, adolescents, the elderly
and people who are terminally ill. I have assisted in research and have been
published.
I founded Limitless Horizons in 1993 so I could have more freedom to personalize
my work with clients; to integrate my training, skill and substantial life experience.
To my work I bring an open heart, deep intuition, a laugh that comes easily and a
willingness to learn and change and a strong commitment to help others know themselves
and speak their truths.
I believe we are all in this together, all works in
progress … becoming more and more conscious beings and that life, no
matter how challenging is meant to be joyous and
fulfilling.
